UkrMining SA

Turning mining waste into value.

Overview

UkrMining SA specializes in the development and implementation of projects for the reprocessing of primary beneficiation waste, including tailings, sludges, and ore dumps from physical separation processes such as flotation.

Enrichment waste contains residual valuable minerals from the parent ores. The content of valuable components is usually below the officially approved threshold. However, since waste deposits as independent objects do not require stripping, and their processing is organized locally, directly near storage sites, the waste is generally already prepared for processing without raw material preparation. This makes reprocessing economically feasible and highly profitable.

Dry Localized Waste

The advantage is that there is no need to undergo a full industrial cycle (stripping, excavation, logistics, crushing, grinding, etc...), and processing facilities can be located directly next to the accumulation sites. This enables efficient and cost-effective recovery of residual valuable components.

Wet Localized Waste

We utilise the natural segregation of valuable components, where accumulation occurs near dam zones and tailings storage areas. The content of valuable components in these zones is significantly higher compared to the overall waste mass. For such waste, we typically apply hydromechanical methods, which substantially reduce processing costs. These projects are usually highly profitable, producing additional commercial concentrates at lower costs than parent enterprises.

Special Focus

Of particular interest are accumulated wastes from the early development periods (1900 – 2000), when beneficiation technologies were imperfect.

Experience

2010

UkrMining developed and patented a technology for the reprocessing of manganese-containing waste from Ukrainian enterprises. The tailings had been accumulated and localised in both dry and wet sludge storage facilities, with an average manganese content of 8 - 11%.

2011 - 2022

Three mining and beneficiation plants were built with a total capacity of 5 million tons of waste per year. The company provided design services based on its proprietary technology, complete engineering support during design, construction, and commissioning, as well as author supervision, technical oversight, and later operational management of production processes.

Manganese Concentrate~36%

Thanks to production costs about three times lower than those of the parent enterprises, the output was highly profitable. The manganese concentrate was supplied to Ukrainian ferroalloy plants and exported to European and Chinese markets.

Due to the military actions in Ukraine, the company’s activities and production were suspended in 2022.
As an example, we suggest reviewing videos that conceptually illustrate the technological process at one of the plants.

Sites

Global Projects

In addition to the above, UkrMining has experience in engineering support and development of projects in Europe, the Philippines, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and other countries. We have worked with waste from manganese, chrome, iron, titanium-zirconium, tantalum-niobium, tin, copper, cobalt, nickel, gold, silver, and other ores.
